The Designer is responsible for the preparation of engineering designs and investigations specific to their areas of expertise and under the supervision of the Senior Designer, Project Engineer, Project Manager and/or Director of MEP/FP Engineering, across a broad range of commercial, institutional, manufacturing/industrial and healthcare projects.

Position Responsibilities

  • Performs discipline specific engineering systems design assignments under the oversight of the Senior Designer and/or Project Engineer to include field investigations, documentation of existing systems, specific design calculations, selection of specific systems equipment, systems layouts, and construction documents (drawings and specifications) within established ACELA design standards, industry standards, and relevant codes.
  • Assist in the production of plan packages in accordance with municipality, state, and federal design requirements.
  • Assist other design staff as required to achieve within the team a sense of harmony, effective teamwork, highly motivated staff, and a strong customer focus.
  • Assist in monitoring project plans to ensure objectives are being satisfied and provide timely advice to the Project Manager and/or Project Engineer on any anticipated delays affecting project commitments.
  • Maintain the company standards specific for MEP/FP AutoCAD/Revit
  • Assist in review of documents for quality control of deliverables.
  • Attending project meetings.

  • Meet stringent deadlines.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to travel to various project sites.
  • Working knowledge of building codes, municipal ordinances, and government design manuals Ability to work independently with supervision on a diverse range of design projects.

Supervisory Responsibilities

There are no supervisory responsibilities in this position.

Education and Experience

  • Excellent working knowledge of AutoCAD/Revit, Microsoft Office Products
  • Minimum 2 years of discipline specific design experience.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical design/engineering desirable, however, not mandatory.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talk or hear; is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger/handle/feel, reach with hands and arms; frequently required to sit, balance, stoop, kneel, bend, and crouch; occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
