Project Architect

Project Manager is a role suited for a registered architect responsible for all phases of the architectural process on a project including the supervision and training of lesser experienced design team members.  This is an influential role that requires excellent communication and mentoring finesse. Team members in this role are in their journey to possible leadership roles including Sr. Project Architect; Project Manager; Sr. Project Manager; Director, and Principal.

Position Responsibilities

  • Independently evaluates, selects, and applies architectural techniques, procedures, and modifications.
  • Responsible for developing approaches to achieving specified objectives including the investigation of many variables.
  • Performs architectural assignments after receiving general instructions and project scope from the Project Manager.
  • Works directly with Project Manager to develop preliminary designs and to recommend procedures.
  • May supervise Architectural Designers and Project Coordinators and be assisted by Interior Designers or Marketing staff.
  • Must understand Means and Methods, Good Building Practices, codes, and be able to produce a complete set of construction documents including written specifications.
  • Responsible to coordinate with outside consultants including engineers and cost estimators.
  • Coordinates construction administration with construction managers/administrators and reviews shop drawings
  • Runs and coordinates job meetings assuring that all meeting tasks are assigned and completed. May assist Project Manager(s) with preparation of cost and quality estimates.
  • May be requested to attend networking functions and assist Team Leaders in acquiring new business.
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Ability to use working knowledge of all consultant work to maintain efficiencies and meet deadlines. Possess an in depth understanding of the basics of most building systems.
  • Proficiency in Revit/BIM; Auto/CAD required.
  • Proficiency in MS Office software such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel is required.
  • Develop Preliminary and Advanced Designs according to schedules and budgets including the preparation and coordination of construction documents, code reviews, specifications, and quality control procedures.
  • Ability to apply Project Management procedures to the work under your supervision.
  • When requested by management or required to complete assigned tasks, work additional hours beyond the regularly scheduled 40-hour work week.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor or Master’s Degree in Architecture from an accredited college or university in the United States or an equivalent architecture degree from a foreign institution.
  • Advanced Design Portfolio.
  • Minimum of five years of architectural experience with a minimum of at least one year running multiple projects.
  • Professional architect registration in the USA.
  • NCARB certification preferred.
  • LEEDap or LEED Green Associate preferred (ability to test and successfully achieve certification within 24 months of hire is highly recommended).

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talk or hear; is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger/handle/feel, reach with hands and arms; frequently required to sit, balance, stoop, kneel, bend, and crouch; occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
